I stumbled upon this infused water when a piece of watermelon fell in my glass.  Instead of taking it out, I just left it there, and know what? It tastes refreshingly good.  And I decided to experiment with flavor combinations.  Hmm, what tastes good with watermelon?  I wanted an herb to get some health benefits from my infused water and I decided, let me try mint.  And that was good, but I stumbled upon basil.  I’ve been growing basil and my plant is going crazy, and as I was cutting it up for freezing, I decided to try it in my infused water.  Know what? It tastes pretty darn good.  So there I have it, watermelon basil infused water.  And know what’s pretty awesome about this aside from tasting yum!… it has health benefits.

Health Benefits

Watermelon – this wonderful fruit has great vitamins such as B6, A, and C, along with it having antioxidant properties.  Additionally it has amino acids that help the body, lycopene , and has been known to help reduce blood pressure.

Basil – this beautiful herb is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial (from eugenol, citral, limonene, citronellol, and linalool).  It’s also known to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce anxious feelings.

This is a great infused water in the hot summer days.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c watermelon, cubed
  • 20 basil leaves, poked with fork for easy infuse

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, add watermelon and basil. Fill pitcher with remaining spring water. chill in fridge for an hour or two. pour and enjoy.
